In 2017, Lamborghini shocked the world with the reveal of its five-seater, self-proclaimed Super Sports Utility Vehicle (SSUV). It was an outlandish creation, which has since spurred an abundance of supercar-spec SUVs.

Here is the latest addition to the trend. After months of rumours, leaks and whispers, this is the Ferrari Purosangue. Although, it's not exactly your average grocery-getter, and we can pretty much guarantee that no Purosangues will ever touch dirt. To start, Purosangue is Italian for 'thoroughbred'. It's hard to understand how a SUV can be thoroughbred in any way, shape or form, until you find out that a 6.5L, 715hp, naturally aspirated V12 is under the hood. Due to this, Ferrari claims that the Purosangue is capable of darting from 0-100km/h in a staggering 3.3 seconds and tops out at over 300km/h. Not bad for a 2173kg family SUV. Surprisingly, Ferrari will not offer a hybrid or electric platform for the Purosangue; it's good to see companies still producing fully fledged ICE cars.

It's hard to disagree that the Ferrari Purosangue is a gorgeous car. Ferrari claims that it is more of a shooting-brake build - a replacement to the GTC4Lusso, but it's obvious to the outside viewer that it is, in fact, one of the most beautiful SUVs on the market today. The Rolls-Royce-style suicide doors allow us to get a good look at the luxurious, 4 seat cream interior. Both rows of chairs have adjustable climate control systems, with electrically adjusted seats. The dashboard is similar to that of the SF90 or 296GTB, but who ever is riding shotgun gets a 10.2 inch touchscreen. Have a sore back? The Purosangue has you covered; treat yourself to a 10-cushion massage system.

The exterior design is nothing less than superb. Sleek, curvy lines are used to create proportions that have never been seen before. The Purosangue implements design elements from the Roma, focusing particularly on the headlights and taillights. The thin, angular headlights and surrounded by ventilation systems, with an abundance of airflow systems in the grille ensuring aerodynamic performance.

Although the Ferrari Purosangue is in essence a SUV, it isn't particularly practical. The boot storage size is only 473 litres, around the size of an average hot-hatch trunk, so you may have trouble fitting your dog in. But for those willing to spend $577,000+AUD on a SUV, is storage space your biggest concern? Seriously though, with a price tag like that, it's hard to even decipher what the Purosangue's competitors will be. It's over $100k more than the new Urus Performanté and a whopping $200k more than the DBX 707. So really, if you buy the Ferrari SUV it's just to say you have a Ferrari SUV.
