Ford Mustang
Sixty years after the original Ford Mustang was revealed to the world, the American automotive powerhouse has debuted the 7th generation of the 'Stang.
On the eve of an all electric future, Ford has made a statement by investing in another V8-powered Mustang. Ford claims that the newest variation is "the most exhilarating and fun-to-drive yet", and we can see why, with extensive upgrades since the last model.
The new-gen is powered by a five-litre Coyote V8 engine, capable of producing a meaty 480hp; the most horsepower made from a Mustang GT ever. This is possible due to a new dual air intake box, partnered with a dual-throttle body design, which minimises induction loss and enables higher air flow rates. Incredibly, Ford has kept manual options open, with a 6-speed manual transmission available, as well as a 10-speed auto. Electric or hybrid is not available at all, however a 2.3L 4-cylinder turbo can be optioned if you have a green-thumb.
Interior has been a large focus when redesigning the new Mustang. Inspired by a fighter jet, Ford says the interior is "the most technologically advanced, driver-centric cockpit of any Mustang to date", which is true due to a number of reasons. A huge 12.4 inch screen replaces a regular instrument cluster system, and a race-inspired flat bottom steering wheel helps create a driver-focused interior. The boxy and modern interior is reminiscent of the new Bronco, but remodeled to be lower to the ground and more driver orientated.
On the outside, the Gen 7 Mustang sticks to historic roots, while modernising for the current market. The familiar three-slit taillights seen on every model since the '64 remain, but sharp, aggressive and ventilated front design is one of the biggest changes. All of this allows an increase in airflow, creating more power and performance. The three versions of the Gen 7; the GT, the EcoBoost and the Convertible variant all have different styles, however all are great in their own ways.
It's remarkable that Ford have stuck with the Coyote V8 for another generation, but is it too early to say that this will be the last thoroughbred V8 Mustang? Only time will tell.
