Porsche 911 GT2RS
A crisp morning in the picturesque Adelaide Hills is extremely hard to beat, however in the presence of a 700HP, wildly aggressive Porsche 991 GT2RS, your experience can become a little more, let's say, spectacular.
Built in 2019, the GT2RS is the most powerful car to have ever been given the 911 name badge. Its obnoxiously large rear spoiler, vented body work and rigid chassis make it not only fast on the straights, but blisteringly quick around the corners, too. In fact, a special 'Manthey Racing' edition of the GT2RS is the fastest production car around the Nürburgring. Only 77 units of this edition will be made, produced for hardcore racing enthusiasts. Reverting back to the road legal version, with a lightweight construction of only 1500kg and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, it's easy to see why this car is such a menace on the track.
The heart of the GT2RS, a 3.8 litre flat-six engine, produces 700HP, which is sent directly to the rear wheels. It's good for 0-60mp/h (96kp/h) in an eye-watering 2.6 seconds, with an unbelievable top speed of 340kp/h. The 7-speed PDK gearbox is sharp and responsive, with an extraordinarily iconic shift sound.
This spec that we got to review and photograph is the Weissach Edition, with an iconic paint of 'Miami Blue', contrast to the yellow Porsche Ceramic Composite brake calipers.
The interior of the GT2RS shows its race roots, while maintaining a level of comfort and luxury. However, with carbon fibre bucket seats that come fixed from factory (available to be adjusted as an option), it might not be the most pleasant of trips if driving for an extended amount of time, especially with the drone of the otherwise superb exhaust system. The car comes standard with a touch screen featuring Apple CarPlay, and has an available added option of a BOSE® Surround Sound System, for when you get tired of the mechanical symphony of the titanium exhaust system.
Overall, this car is sublime. It is the sort of car that snaps necks with both its extreme aerodynamics and also its mesmerising exhaust note. It is one of the most popular supercars of recent times, and for very good reason. In times of a switch from combustion engines to electric motors, this is a perfect send off for what is to be one of the last non-hybrid Porsches that we will ever see. The design, engine, chassis and customisation options are all immaculate, creating a perfect racecar for the road.
